Real-Life Communication -- Solution

A good nail technician can educate customers on nail care. After reading some facts about nails and nail care, you might have written something like this.

Our nails serve an important function. They help protect our fingers and toes from injury.

Have you ever dropped anything on your toe or hit your fingernail with a hammer? As painful as that might be, it would be much more painful and your fingers and toes would suffer more trauma if not for your nails.

With this in mind, it is important that you take care of your nails. Nails are made from keratin, a protein, and one thing you can do to make sure they are healthy is to take care of yourself -- eat right, get plenty of sleep and exercise.

Your overall health can affect your nails, and symptoms of health problems can sometimes show up on them.

Many people want their nails to be beautiful as well as healthy. Some even have professional manicures, and of course they want to maintain the gorgeous nails for as long as possible. A good nail technician will give you tips on how to keep your nails beautiful between appointments.

For example, biting your nails is definitely out! And you should try not to use your nails for anything. Use something else to open a soda can or push the buttons on a phone. When you do use your fingers, try to only use the pads.

Keeping your fingernails clean is very important. Wash them often with a liquid soap or a softened bar soap. Then apply a moisturizing lotion.

When you wash dishes, clean house, or do lawn work, make sure you wear gloves. It's important to protect your hands when doing any dirty work. You should also try not to expose your hands to any harsh detergents or cleaning chemicals.

When you want to touch up your manicure, wait until you get out of the shower to carefully push back those cuticles, because they will be soft and supple. Also, a clear coat on top of your polish will help keep your nails from chipping.

If you follow this advice, your nails will stay beautiful longer!
