Real-Life Math -- Solution

Start by figuring out the tax:

$50 x 0.05 = $2.50

Now, the total bill:

$50 + $2.50 = $52.50

The interest comes next:

4 percent interest per month x 6 months = 24 percent
$52.50 x 0.24 = $12.60

Add those:

$52.50 + $12.60 = $65.10

Now, the hassle costs:

$65.10 x 2.00 (200 percent) = $130.20

Add that to the actual damages:

$130.20 + $65.10 = $195.30

And, finally, add in the court fees:

$195.30 + $45 + $15 = $255.30

The total bill for the groomer is $255.30. An expensive mistake!
