Real-Life Math

Reflexology itself doesn't involve any math. Most reflexologists run their own small businesses, though, and this does take a little calculating.

You have to calculate your earnings and costs for the month.

For this month, you will average 5 clients a day, 5 days of the week. Each session costs $32. There will be 4 workweeks plus 2 weekdays in this month.

What will your overall earnings be for the month?

Next, you have to determine your business costs for 2 reasons. First, you should keep track of your business costs because they can be deducted from your taxable income. That means you won't have to pay tax on those expenses. Second, by determining the costs you'll know exactly how much of your earnings you will actually "take home from the office."

So, here are your business expenses:

You pay $360 a month for your rental space
The phone line costs $48 a month
Laundry (towels) costs $6 a week
Oil is $6 a month
Food and beverages cost $127 a month

How much of your monthly earnings will you have left?
