You decide to stop treating him.

This is the decision made by Maria Krohmer. She was too uncomfortable with the situation, so she told the patient that they could not continue. She felt very sad that she couldn't help him. After all, that's why she's in this business -- because she loves to help people get better.

It was for the best, though, says Krohmer. "He would've had to change his lifestyle before we could do anything in the first place. He couldn't do that. I still believe that we could have gotten him close to being off the needle if he had watched his diet."
