Real-Life Math -- Solution

First, figure out how much time elapsed.

5:43 - left office
6:02 - robbery reported

19-minute difference

Now, figure out the speed your client would have had to travel to cover the distance in that time.

45 miles / 19 minutes = x / 60 minutes

Cross-multiply to get your answer:

45 x 60 = 2,700
2,700 / 19 = 142 miles an hour

That's impossibly fast. You prepare your argument for the case, knowing that the jury or judge will weigh that piece of evidence heavily.

Lawyers deal with hard facts.

"My approach is that my job is not to analyze the morality behind a person's actions; the issue for me is legal guilt," says defense lawyer Wade Jensen. "It's my job to assess the case against them."
