Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You decide to pass on the article.
This is the real-life decision of Carol Dunitz in Michigan.
Even though the money is good, you are not in the business of writing pornographic
material or submitting articles to a pornographic magazine. You think it would
damage your reputation as a serious business writer to take on this task.
And you simply aren't interested.
"These aren't the kinds of projects I take on," says Dunitz. "A person
must have some integrity."
She thought the publisher was less than reputable. "He said he thought
my PhD would look nice in the credits."
Even if you are struggling to get by, it won't do anything for your
reputation or your self-esteem to take on any type of project that you think
is immoral, says Dunitz.
"You also have to think about several other issues before taking on a project,"
advises Richard Andersen, copywriter. "Is it legal? Is it false advertising?
Does it support or encourage violence or unconstitutional discrimination?
Are there privacy issues involved?"
