Additional Information

Few universities have entomology departments anymore. Most have been amalgamated with the life sciences or zoology departments.

The trend in education is "more is better." Entomologist Mark Goettel says that more and more students entering the workforce have PhDs. If entomologists wish to work in a government or university research position, a master's degree is required.

Jerry Butler is a professor of medical-veterinary entomology at the University of Florida. He says students should focus on a wide variety of science courses while earning their bachelor's degrees. He recommends taking courses in all the basic sciences (chemistry, biology and physics).
