Real-Life Decision Making

The following lists most of what travelers should have with them when returning home:

  • Passport
  • Proof of residency and how long they've been outside the country
  • List of all items being imported, including detailed inventories
  • Receipts for items purchased outside the country
  • Declaration of all alcohol being brought into the country

A woman named Betsy Beeston is trying to get over the border. Although she seems to have all her papers in order, you find a bottle of liquor tucked under the passenger seat with a carton of cigarettes.

"I'm sorry, really I am," she cries. "I totally forgot that stuff was even there. My boyfriend bought that a few nights ago and must've forgotten it. It's not mine, though. Really, it's not. I don't even drink or smoke. Really."

All alcohol must be declared. The young lady clearly did not follow procedure. But she might have simply forgotten.
