Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You try another signal to get the sea lion to perform the way you want.

The signal you were using wasn't working, so you improvise and try another approach. Unfortunately, the animal doesn't recognize your directions, and his movements become jerky and confused. You would have been better off to ignore the poor behavior and move on to something else.

Overseeing the daily lives of animals is similar to raising a child -- things change by the second. It's necessary to take in all the info and make a quick decision. If an animal is not responding the way they usually do, they may be having a bad day, or there may be something wrong with the animal's general health. If they are acting like something is not right, a trainer will make the decision on whether or not to call the vet.
