Additional Information

According to the International Marine Animal Training Association, a college degree is not necessary. But as marine mammal trainer Paul Bradley will tell you, it is an advantage. A degree will enhance your knowledge and understanding of your career.

Some organizations will not hire those without a degree or a degree in progress. Usually, the only way around this requirement is to have a substantial amount of applicable experience.

Marine mammal scientist Brenda Jensen says most people in her field have at least a bachelor's degree and many have a master's. If you want to run your own research program, you should have a PhD.

It's helpful to be certified in scuba diving.
