Insider Info

Additional Information

Naval architects need an engineering and design background. Often, a degree program in naval architecture offers students a great deal of hands-on experience, which is useful when they look for their first real job.

Extra Requirements

Along with earning a bachelor’s degree, students at states’ maritime academies take exams for licensure from the U.S. Coast Guard. Another type of engineering license is the Professional Engineering (PE) license, which allows for higher levels of leadership and independence and can be acquired later in one’s career.
