Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution
You decide not to go to the party.
Rules are rules. Because you don't want to suffer the consequences
of breaking those rules, you decide not to attend the party.
You sit at home that night and watch some TV. Then you go to bed. Before
you fall asleep, you think about the party and wonder what's going on
and what you're missing. You have second thoughts about your decision
to stay home. After all, you deserve to have some fun, too.
The next morning, you open the newspaper and see a picture of one of your
teammates plastered on the front page. You read through the article, and find
out that a fight broke out between an obnoxious fan and one of the team members,
and everyone was tossed in jail.
You know Coach Ramsey will be furious, and those team members involved
may very well be suspended from the team.
You mentally pat yourself on the back for having the courage to decide
not to go to that party. It was a tough decision, but you made the right one.
This is a real-life decision that must be made by professional hockey players,
says hockey coach Peter Anholt.
"If you've been a bad apple young in your life but still managed to
turn pro, now the decisions are even more magnified because you're in
the public eye," says Anholt. "You're dealing with a lot more money,
so the decisions you make will affect you even more in your professional life."
