In terms of scientific integrity, you score high marks. A potential sample source should never be ignored if it is possible to tap it. The more samples, the better the science.

But is it worth redirecting the entire group? With all the heavy equipment you're carrying, it will be a slow trip. You have to remember the morale of your workers. They all expected to be home taking hot showers and sleeping in their own beds later tonight. They aren't going to like this detour.
