Insider Info

The Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) has members worldwide. They work for government offices and labs, educational institutions, industry, magazines, book publishers, television, radio, legal firms and environmental societies.

Opportunities for employment are best for those with strong training in mathematics or engineering, and those with a solid and well-rounded foundation. Even when the number of available positions in the field is small, first-rate scientists are always very much in demand.

"There'll also be openings available in the next few years due to present workers reaching retirement age," says biologist John Shearer.

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
