Real-Life Math

You have just started a new job at the counter of an auto salvage yard and shop. Your first customer comes in a few minutes before you open. Your manager asks you to help him find the part that he is looking for while he goes through the process of opening up the cash register.

You have a great knowledge of auto parts and find what is needed fairly quickly. So quickly, in fact, that your manager is still not finished opening the cash register.

There is no calculator around and you must do the calculations off the top of your head. The auto part costs $35 and there is a 0.06 percent tax on the total.

  1. What is the total cost of the part?
  2. The customer gives you a $100 bill. How much change do you give back?
