Polysomnography Technician

Money & Outlook

Insider Info

The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists reports 22,000 certified members worldwide. The members work in Canada, the U.S. and other countries.

The need will continue to grow, technologist Shawn Kimbro predicts. He says that nine percent of the U.S. population has sleep apnea, but only one percent is receiving treatment. "The field will grow drastically as the technology and public interest increases," he says.

Registered polysomnography technologists can find international work opportunities. "You can work almost anywhere," says Laree Fordyce. She is a registered technologist. "A friend of mine goes to Japan to teach technicians how to work the machines."

Earnings and employment information from the U.S. Department of Labor is not available for this field at this time.
